Our Services
Walkways & Stairs
What patio is complete without an equally crafted entrance to it? Generally made of the same seamless stone sheets as our patios, our walkways guide you to them with their naturally edged perimeters. You will see us trying to build a puzzle with no pictures to go off, that you must cut your own pieces for. With any change in elevation, you need either a ramp or a step. Ramps are simply stone sheets set on a slope. Natural stone steps can be ordered at various lengths, but typically a 7” rise and 16” tread. Natural stone faces add another element to the design.
Patios
This is what we hang our hat on, as you will see in our photo gallery. We use large natural stone sheets, cutting each side, to create an almost seamless stone patio. Time consuming and labour intensive, there are few who can rival our patios. Each one is unique and will last for decades, built with an excellently draining base and retained by natural armour stone where required.
Retaining Walls
Most of the retaining walls we have built to date were along the shores of Lake Huron, or Georgian Bay. With the high-water levels several years ago, there was a large amount of damage to waterfront properties. We have removed damaged vegetation and reclaimed many waterfronts. With that in mind, most clients have wanted to protect their investment in shorelines from high water in future. Natural armour stone retaining walls are a beautiful, long-lasting way to accomplish this. Environmental impact is something to strongly consider when working along any body of water. We have worked hand in hand with Environmental Engineers and Consultants on several projects to date, both within the parks and out, ensuring minimal impact on the surrounding ecosystems. Inland retaining walls are a very good way to create a level, usable space on more steeply sloping properties. Retaining septic systems meeting minimum setbacks from shorelines is another common use for retaining walls. Our minimum requirement for a wall stone is 1 tonne. With these large blocks of stone, you can be sure they are not moving.
Lawn Construction
Leveling of existing materials, removal of stumps & boulders, placing and grading of soil, with grass seeding being our final step.
Driveway Construction
Removal of organic material, placing of geotextile if necessary, placing & grading of base granules, placing & grading the finishing gravel. Grading & capping existing driveways for improvements, additions & repairs
Lot Clearing
When you purchase a piece of land this is the first step in the process of any construction. Choosing your building envelope is one of the most important decisions you will make. Topography, access, exposure, and view are a few of the factors to consider. Once chosen, preparation begins with developing a means of access and a space to begin construction. Tree, stump, boulder, and organic materials removal is the starting point, building the roadway as you go.
Foundation Excavation
What you build on top of is as important, if not more important, than what you build with. Ensuring the base for your investment is compact, solid, and stable is essential. Whether you plan on a full basement, crawl space, pony wall or slab on grade, the area needs to be prepped. Proper drainage, depth and base are key considerations. Upon completion of the foundation backfill is required. Using the proper materials can avoid a lot of issues down the road.
Septic System Installation
If you aren’t right in town on Bruce Peninsula, you will need a septic system. Licensed as an on-site sewage system installer for Ontario, we can design and install your septic system. With the stringent guidelines and regulations set out by the province, having a trusted and knowledgeable source to count on is essential. There are many types and sizes, determining the one that is right for you depends on topography, soil composition, location and volume.
Utility Excavation
Unless you’re aiming for that off grid lifestyle, running your hydro in from the grid is a big deal. Buried electrical has the advantages of not being in the way of falling trees, trucks, equipment, and so on. Once installed there is next to no maintenance required for decades to come. Well marked it should never be disturbed. Internet, gas, water and sewer are other luxuries to consider running at the same time if available.
Drainage Solutions
Site grading is the first option to consider, being more economical in most cases and avoiding pooling. Sending water to swales or French drains, if required, to be expelled in a less impactful area. Sub surface drainage by means of perforated pipe, or “Big O”, is sometimes required where terrain dictates grading is not an option, or you desire a less invasive approach to the property. Culvert installation or replacement if drainage across roads is the best route.
